Welcome new resident artist - Julia Hickey

Julia Hickey will be working out of CorkStop Studios for 3 months starting March. She is a native of San Luis Obispo, CA. She earned a B.A. in Studio Art from Yale University in 2007 and has been working in an art related field in London, U.K. for the past couple of months. Her paintings and prints explore the capacity of images to index violence, loss, and memory. Her works are based on both real and imagined stories of violence in her mother's home country, Guatemala, where during a 36-year civil war, it is estimated that between 100,000 to 200,000 Guatemalans were killed or "disappeared." She hopes to spend the next year exploring similar themes in Berlin.

Lynn Kishiyama abstract collage workshop

February 9th saw the first workshop held at the studio. The workshop was given by Lynn Kishiyama whose own work is inspired by Eastern sensiblities. We had 20 people comfortably working in the studio and all created a couple of stunning pieces to take home with them. The workshop was immensely successful and the positive creative energy was a wonder to behold.
Our next workshop will be Encaustic wax sometime in the summer.
